Easy Teen Birthday Cake Ideas
Researching teen birthday cake ideas was a little daunting at first. I'm not an expert baker or cake decorator.
Visiting a cake decorating shop gave me the inspiration for this cake. From their a vast array of cutter shaps and moulds, I chose the heart cutters. The shoes and hand bag cutters were pretty cool too. Armed with some good quality roll out icing and some very 'teen appropriate' edible glitter dusting, I returned home and created my cake. Abbie said it was the best birthday cake she'd ever had!

How to make this cake 1. Bake a 8" plain choclate sponge. I baked it in 1 8" tin and cut it in half horizontally, but you could use 2 tins and sandwich together later. Leave it to cool properly otherwise the icing will melt 2. Level off the top and turn the cake over so that the flat bottom becomes the top of the cake. 3. Fill the middle with butter cream. It's fine to soften the icing for 10-20 seconds in the microwave so it smooths on well. 4. Brush any crumbs off the cake and smooth a layer of butter cream to the top and sides to give a good surface for the icing to stick to. 5. Roll out some sugar icing. (Very lightly greasing the surface with a white fat stops it sticking), 6. Lay it over the cake and smooth flat trimming the base with a shapre knife. 7. Split the remaining icing into 2, colour 1 half purple by adding a few drops of purple food colouring and kneeding well to blend. 8. Cut out plenty of hearts in both colours and different sizes with the cutters 9. Arrange them randomly over the cake. Brushing the backs with cooled boiled water to help them stick. 10. Finished off with a dusting of edible pearlesent glitter 11. Add candles, Sing Happy Birthday and serve! Add your own teen birthday cake ideas
