Age and other useless numbers

by Jack Mackey
(United Kingdom)

Pi, said the teacher,

Will serve you for life,
It'll brighten your prospects,
And get you a wife,
"Oh really?", said the pupil,
"How is that so?"
But it seemed that his teacher in truth didn't know
Cosine and tangent,
They're important to learn,
But only if that's where your interests concern,

You see age is just one more meaningless number,
Just a sinister countdown to eternal slumber,
It matters not how long you've spent on this earth,
But the way that you feel you have proven your worth,
Stop the worry and guilt another year can bring,
And instead watch your future, let possibilities sing.
